Universal Healthcare

 

For this final project, I would like you to assume that in the next 5 years universal healthcare will be implemented.  A very large portion of implementing universal healthcare would be integrating the health data of all American citizens.  Please write a 5-7 page paper addressing the following:

 

Would it be legal to put everyone's health data on a portal for all healthcare providers to access?

How does HIPAA relate to this concept in terms of information technology?

Who would head up the project (assuming it is legal)?  

Would your team have the same composition as the team that implemented Meditech in a large health system, such as Mass General?

What would the steps be in implementing this system?

Please spend some time thinking about risk management and comment on it with regards to putting everyone's healthcare data on a national portal.

Do other countries, such as the UK or Canada, have a similar national healthcare database in place?
