Unit 6 Discussion

As mentioned in the class notes, Prof. Jared Diamond has taken an historical view of how and why different nations and societies succeed and fail.  .

First, watch this "classic" TED Talk about "Why Societies Collapse" (18 minutes).  Note particularly the five factors that Diamond lists that tend to lead to collapse.   (On the flip side, these factors in the positive sense can help societies develop.)   Choose just one factor that might affect the US during the rest of the 21st century, and then in a posting of a paragraph or two, explain how this one factor might challenge the well-being of the US over the long term, and how we can respond to that challenge.  Post by January 24 and respond to two or more classmates.
